Man accused of severely injuring another with a hammer waives preliminary hearing

An Erie resident is heading to trial after police accuse him of attacking a man with a knife and a hammer. 

40-year-old Luther Barnett was in Erie County Court.  Investigators say he went into another man’s home and demanded money, threatening the resident with a knife.  He also allegedly hit the victim in the back with a hammer.  The victim suffered severe injuries. 

This afternoon, Barnett waived his right to a preliminary hearing.  Several charges are held for trial, including aggravated assault and robbery.
