A man is arrested for attempted robbery after police free him from a store’s ductwork. Erie Police arrested 27-year-old Michael Rodriguez-Santiago. Police say he was stuck in the ductwork of a Dollar General after he squeezed in, attempting to rob the store.
A manager at the Dollar General in the 700 block of East Avenue called police after hearing someone in the ceiling of the store, calling for help. Erie Firefighters found the man after entering through the roof. Police say a number of tools used in the break-in were discovered at the scene, and the suspect suffered minor cuts and burns.
Deputy Chief Jon Nolan of the Erie Police Department tells us, “When they did finally make contact with him to pull him out, he was just in his boxer shorts because he took his clothes off and stuffed them down the vent to try and block the heat”.
Rodriguez-Santiago was arraigned on several charges including burglary, possessing instruments of crime and criminal trespass.
He was sent to the Erie County Prison on $25,000 bond.
