Man charged with starting Albion apartment building fire headed to trial

ERIE, Pa. — A man accused of setting fire to an apartment building in Albion is heading to trial.

District Judge Chris MacKendrick bound over all of 34-year-old Charles Beck’s charges in his preliminary hearing Thursday.

Beck is charged with arson and risking catastrophe in the fire that ripped through the Barnett Apartment building in Albion on Feb. 9.

That fire displacing more than 60 residents.

In the courtroom Thursday, several witnesses including residents of the apartment building, fire and police officials and a woman who spent time with Beck the day of the fire all testified. His bail was reduced to 10 percent of $100,000.
