The city of Erie is helping to raise awareness about an app that could help save lives.
Mayor Joe Schember is spreading the word about PulsePoint AED, an app that connects users with the nearest defibrillator. Allegheny Health Network and Saint Vincent Hospital launched the free app this summer.
Officials say that providing immediate aid to a person suffering cardiac arrest can increase a person’s chances of survival. Dr. Jestin Carlson of AHN says, “If you see someone who collapses, first of all, call 9-1-1, get help for it. Second, early CPR and the third is early defibrillation.”
Saint Vincent Hospital plans to release a complementary app by early next year which will alert people nearby who can render aid when help is needed.
