Mayor Joe Sinnott is responding to Erie County Council’s EMTA proposal.
At Thursday night’s finance committee meeting, the county laid out a 20 year plan for a regionalized transit system that would make the county responsible for all matching funds. By 2020 that’s expected to be more than $881,000. The plan also gives the county the right to appoint all board members.
Mayor Sinnott says the county has been threatening things like this all along.
“The city has been very forthcoming all along in saying that we have no intention of turning the EMTA over to the county, so all of these measures I see as exercises in futility,” Mayor Sinnott said.
The county has given the city until June 30th to respond to their proposal or they say they’re out.
The mayor says the city is committed to making sure EMTA’s quality service continues.
