Mayor Joe Schember traded in his suit and tie for scrubs Thursday afternoon as he tested out a new surgical robot at Saint Vincent hospital.
The mayor got a chance to see how the “Davinci XI” robot works first hand. Saint Vincent currently has two of these new robots and they are the only hospital in the region to have the latest model. The “Davinci XI” will be used to make surgeries less invasive and leave minimal scarring.”It just allows us to really give someone a great operation and do so with very small incisions which once again gets the patient out of the hospital quicker and gives them their quality of life back quicker, “said Dr. Patrick Recio.
Saint Vincent also has the teaching console that comes with the “Davinci XI,” so they are able to teach their surgical fellows and residents how to use the robot.
