The Meadville Area Recreation Complex is looking into a permanent fix for ongoing issues facing the ice rink. The rink was built in the 1970’s and maintenance workers say the system is worn out.
The internal system is unable to keep the ice cool, but thanks to a rented external piece of equipment, the rink is fully functional. Employees tell us they should have a permanent fix by August to keep this community staple up and running.
Kevin Raszman, Facility Maintenance Supervisor, tells us, “This is a really good thing for the community. I don’t know too many communities the size of Meadville [that] have a facility like this in place. There’s not a lot.”
With funds from a DCNR grant, the complex will get a new system attached to the top of the building to hopefully last another several decades.
