Meadville Medical gives up Level 3 Trauma accreditation

Local News

Meadville Medical Center is giving up its Level 3 Trauma Center accreditation.

That’s because to maintain that accreditation, the hospital would now have to hire a fellowship trained trauma surgeon.  The Chief Medical Officer at the Medical Center tells Action News there’s just not a large enough volume of patients to attract that kind of health care professional to Meadville.

In the future, it will be up to emergency medical services to decide whether a patient should go to Meadville Medical Center or directly to a hospital with a higher level of trauma care.
