Mercyhurst University hosts a treasure hunt of sorts open to the public

Local News

Mercyhurst University is digging into Erie’s past with an annual event.

The anthropology, archeology and geology departments invited local residents to bring in items for professionals and students in training to analyze.

Every year, this event grows with people bringing in things they’ve found, inherited, or in some cases, forgot they had laying around the house.

Edward Jolie, Assistant Professor of Anthropology/Archeology, says, “This is an event we started to generate public interest in the past and also to let [the] public know in Erie that we’re here as a resource. We like to get people to come in not only to see what we do here on the campus of Mercyhurst University but also they learn from us and we learn from them”.

Those departments putting on the event also say that interacting with the public is an important part of their research.
