The Mile-Long Yard Sale in Girard is a tradition for many residents in and around the Girard area. While many people come from outside of the borough, those who reside in Girard turn out in droves.
For some, holding a sale is their tradition, while others love to look around for something cool or unusual to buy. John Stemple just moved here with his family to Girard in December. This is their first time experiencing the sale. As Stemple dons a very large, fake mustache he tells us, “You never know what you’re going to find!”
For Matthew Suscheck, who is helping his parents who live in Girard, the sale carries a bit of nostalgia. He remembers sitting in the front yard as a kid as neighbors stopped by their sale. “Just, it gets the community going and stuff. We’ve lived here for 24 years and it’s nice to just people watch and get to know your neighbors.”
