In response to the tragic shooting in Parkland, Florida, one local school district is making sure they’re prepared. Millcreek School District will be conducting active shooter hard lockdowns in all of their schools early next week.
The district conducts at least two per year, but Superintendent Bill Hall says he hopes to start doing more. “We have to conduct 10 fire drills a year. We’re mandated to do that… We really need to be conducting more of these hard lockdown active shooter drills and get rid of the fire drills, if possible. Kids are not getting killed in fires, they’re getting killed by gunfire.”
The district is also working with police to review the critical incident plan and emergency response procedures.
