ERIE, Pa. -- For the first time since the 1980s, Millcreek Township has a new refuse collector.
After decades of contracting with Waste Management, Millcreek Township supervisors have tapped a new partner for trash collection duties.
Beginning in April, Advanced Disposal Services of Western Pennsylvania will take over the task of picking up trash and recyclables from all Millcreek residences.
A five-year contract with Waste Management expired, and they submitted a bid for renewal. However, the final decision was made as a cost-saving measure.
"Both bids were very competitive,” Millcreek supervisor Brian McGrath said.
“But we had heard horror stories all over the county that rates were going up over 25 percent. So, we're happy that we could not only hold the line on cost but maybe reduce the cost a little bit.”
Residents will save approximately $1 with the new company and Advanced Disposal will provide new garbage bins and recycling bins to everyone in the township.
