More employees have been laid off at the Erie Times-News.
Six copy editors were let go as jobs are being outsourced to Austin, Texas — the location of GateHouse Media’s Center for News & Design.
“The union negotiated severance payments for everyone whose positions were outsourced and stayed through their outsourcing date,” said Times-News reporter Kevin Flowers, who represents the union workers at the paper.
These job layoffs were part of the changes announced soon after Gatehouse Media took over the family-owned paper in December.
More layoffs could be coming in August as part of this plan.
“Many talented people who care immensely about this community have left this company since December, and it’s a shame,” Flowers said.
The Times Publishing Company was owned by the Mead family for more than 125 years.
