A NASCAR driver made a pit stop in Erie at the Shriners Hospitals for Children Thursday.
David Ragan visited with sick children and their families for several hours the Erie hospital.
Ragan, a Shriner member himself, had the opportunity to judge a food contest which used ingredients grown by Shriner’s kids and even signed a few autographs for fans.
Ragan said Shriners Hospitals for Children is his official charity.
“All of these young kids are going through some struggles in one way or another in their life and to have Shriners Hospitals for Children to be there for them it’s rewarding to see their spirit,” Ragan said.
Although he lives in Charlotte, N.C., Ragan said one of the first races of his career was at Lake Erie Speedway and he also regularly competes at nearby Watkins Glen in New York.
