A second suspect has been charged with the fatal shooting of 51-year-old Jeffrey Miller on January 7th.
As readers may remember, this was the first homicide of 2019. Coroner Lyell Cook had ruled the death a homicide due to a gunshot wound to the chest.
Court documents and the Erie Police Department has confirmed that 38-year-old Louis Rauch has been charged with criminal homicide, two counts of aggravated assault, robbery-inflict serious bodily injury, terroristic threats with intent to terrorize another, and recklessly endangering another person.
Nicholas Raines was the first charged with the crime and, on January 11th, police released surveillance photos of the second suspect in the murder.
Investigators say Rauch arrived with Nicholas Raines in a charcoal grey Hyundai Elantra and an unknown driver, who is also wanted for questioning in the incident.
Neighbor Tyler Kowalski has been living in that neighborhood for four and a half years. He tells us, “this has just never happened before, like, it’s never been an unsafe neighborhood. It’s always been full of college kids so that really doesn’t happen around here so the fact that it’s starting to happen is kind of scary… let’s just hope that this is the first and last one, you know? Something like that just shouldn’t happen. I think it’s tragic and I think our city should do better.”
Rauch has been transported from Ashtabula County, Ohio, and is in custody right now at the Erie Police Department.
