A new ½-mile loop officially opened Thursday afternoon at McClelland Park on Erie’s east side.
The 56-acre park, located on East 26th Street off McClelland Avenue, has paved a loop that winds through the woods and is also 100 percent handicap accessible.
The green space has meadows, woodlands, wetlands and a creek, as well as a dog park.
The city of Erie and the Sierra Club Lake Erie Group, coordinated together on the project.
“There are seven 7 miles here, 7 miles, but this particular trail (here) was quite long and was heavily used, so that was the trail that we focused on,” said Tom Heigel, Sierra Club outings leader.
The new loop is part of the park’s accessible trail improvements project.
