NewsMaker – Group celebrates Erie lighthouse’s 200th Anniversary

In the early 1800’s, Congress set aside money to build a lighthouse on a bluff overlooking the eastern entrance to Erie’s harbor. 

The War of 1812 delayed things, but construction commenced in 1817 and finished up in 1818, making the Erie Land Lighthouse and one in Buffalo, the earliest American lighthouses built on the Great Lakes. 

This year marks the 200th Anniversary of a lighthouse being on the site located at the foot of Lighthouse Street.  Joining us now to talk about the milestone is Michael Fuhrman, event organizer for an upcoming open house celebrating the 200 year anniversary…
