North East borough develops land bank strategy for blighted properties

Officials in North East are working to address blighted properties in the borough. 

Today, hosting representatives from the Erie County Land Bank including County Executive Kathy Dahlkemper.  The group toured about a dozen blighted properties in North East.  Borough officials are hoping to get a foothold on the land bank procedures and establish a blight strategy for the community.

Patrick Gehrlein, North East Borough Manager, says, “We’re going to be looking at a couple properties that our Code Enforcement Office has identified as being or showing signs of blight… That’s either through abandonment… through disinvestment.”

The Erie County Land Bank entity will help communities manage and repurpose abandoned and blighted properties.
