One local community is celebrating patriotism with pancakes.
For more than 40 years, the Park United Methodist Church in North East held its annual pancake breakfast on Memorial Day.
The long-standing tradition began with ticket sales, but in an effort to help provide hot meals to those in need, the breakfast is now available to people for free or with a donation.
Organizers say it also honors the day.
Rick King says, “It’s important that we do something like that that honors, and a lot of time we’ll have the military will show up here because they’re getting ready for the parade and things like that. So it’s always fun to see that.”
The money that is raised through the donations goes to the church’s mission outreach.
