Officer found justified in Warren shooting

Local News

54 year old Joseph Miller was stopped by Warren City Police on Friday night for traffic violations.

Police followed him into the Dairy Delite parking lot at Route 6 and 59.  Officers say at that point, Miller began loading his AK-47 rifle.  He refused to drop the gun and got out of his car with the loaded rifle in hand.

The officer made a judgement call to strike, and in turn, killed Miller.  Wayne Kline, Crime Section Commander of Erie’s Troop E, tells us, “The witness statements and the dash-cam video all indicate that the officer was justified in his decision making and the use of force.”

Kline says by choosing to shoot at Miller, the officer potentially saved dozens of bystanders at the Dairy Delite that night.
