One year later Elijah Jackson and Shakur Franklin are remembered

Local News
A year ago on July 24th, a mass shooting in Erie claimed the lives of two teenagers.
The community gathered at Bayview Park on West 2nd Street in Erie to remember 16 year- olds Elijah Jackson and Shakur Franklin.

Elijah Jackson and Shakur Franklin were killed while at a party near West 29th and Summit Streets last year.
Bullets were fired into the crowd. Police have made 5 arrests since the shooting. All 5 men are awaiting trial.

At the gathering, there was music, dancing, and food. Hundreds of people showed up to support Jackson’s and Franklin’s family.

“It’s been tough but you are supporting each other, that’s what is helping us get through,” said Elijah Jackson’s mother, Vanessa Belen.

“Had not we did this I would probably be somewhere, like in my bed probably crying or depressed it’s definitely helping” said Mary Kirkland, Shakur Franklin’s mother.

The event helped to raise money for the upkeeping of the teens grave sites.
