Opioid first responders honored by Gaudenzia

Local News

A ceremony in Erie honors local first responders who face the opioid epidemic head-on in their daily work.  Gaudenzia presented awards to representatives from the Erie Police Department and Emergycare for saving lives.

These first responders have revived 19 people who are in Gaudenzia programs.  Gaudenzia Community Affairs Manager Jason Kisielewski says, “It’s heart-wrenching, seeing the number of individuals who have lost their lives.  And it’s not even just individuals, it’s families that you’re seeing torn apart.  So, we’re hoping that with more community outreach, with more tools, with more resources, with Governor Wolf’s Declaration, we’re going to be able to hopefully start reversing that trend very soon.”

Some of the past and present clients in Gaudenzia programs also made thank you cards for the first responders.
