The future of the Erie Metropolitan Transit Authority has taken another turn.
Erie’s Metropolitan Planning Organization is stepping in with its own request.
The Metropolitan Planning Organization sent a letter to both City and County councils, asking that both sides consider approving a short-term, four-year extension to the current EMTA contract.
Four years is equivalent to the federal funding cycle.
The organization plans to conduct a study during that time period to determine what the best options are for EMTA’s future.
John Morgan, vice chairman of the organization, said this is not about placing blame on anyone.
“It is about trying to bring everyone to the table one last time so we can solve this before the possibility of bad options come into play,” Morgan said.
The organization will present the plan to both councils this week.
