The Pennsylvania Lottery sold a record $4.2 billion in games for the fiscal year that ended June 30th. That breaks the previous record by almost $200 million.
It was a record year for payouts, too, as the prize money exceeded $2.7 billion. Scratch off games remain the big sellers, accounting for two out of every three tickets sold. But, the big winners are the state’s seniors.
PA Lottery Executive Director Drew Svitko says, “Record sales are great news for older Pennsylvanians, as well, they benefit from the profit we generate through programs like prescription drug assistance, property tax, and rent rebate and a whole host of others”.
This marks the seventh year in a row that the lottery’s contributions to senior programs topped $1 billion.
