Erie residents are no strangers to driving in severe winter weather conditions, but snow and rainy conditions can pose safety hazards to any experienced driver.

PennDOT and the PA Turnpike are asking motorists to closely monitor the weather forecast and conditions before hitting the roads today.

Today’s weather is expected to be messy, with mixed precipitation from snow to rain, due to potential snow and rainfall. PennDOT and the PA Turnpike are implementing restrictions on roads throughout the state.

The weather will turn from snow to rain.

When driving in snow or rain, PennDOT says to always take precautions:

  • Increase following distance
  • Keep your lights on to help other drivers see you better
  • Prepare or restock vehicle emergency kits
  • Keep non-perishable food, water, warm clothes, and a cell phone charger in those kits
