PennDOT is reducing the limit on northwest region highways, due to the heavy winter snow.

PennDOT is urging people to stay inside, but for people on the roads, the following thruways will be reduced to 45 mph until further notice.

  • Interstates 90, 86, and 79 in Erie County;
  • Interstate 79 in Crawford County; and
  • Interstate 79 in Mercer County from the Crawford County line to the intersection with Interstate 80.

PennDOT recommends people do not drive during the storm. However, motorists can check conditions by visiting www.511PA.com. The application showcases more than 40,000 roadway miles, including color-coded winter conditions on 2,900 miles.
