The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation holding a meeting for the main street bridge project in Lawrence Park township tonight.
The bridge is located on Main street between the intersection with the Lawrence Parkway and Water Street. Officials say due to the bridge’s age it needs renovated but since it is considered a historical landmark, most of the bridge’s original structure will stay in place. Plans for renovating call for replacing the existing bridge deck with a new concrete slab and waterproof overlay.
“they came in to inform the community of when they are going to be coming in to do the project for the bridge and that they are trying to keep it historically correct. The bridge itself is very old and historical but it does need updated,” said Lawrence Park Commissioner Jan Cabaday.
The bridge is expected to be closed for three months during construction which will begin in 2020.
