Pets rescued from Erie house fire

Local News

Erie Firefighters were called to a house fire in the 2900 block of Cochran Street just after 7:00 p.m. Tuesday.
When firefighters arrived, neighbors indicated there may have been someone trapped inside, but the owner had safely escaped the home.

A search determined that there were no other people in the house. However, firefighters rescued a cat and a dog.

The house sustained smoke damage throughout the interior, but the fire was contained to the first floor.

Erie Acting Deputy Fire Chief Fred Gillespie said, “The crews did an excellent job. They got to the scene right away.  It’s a narrow street.  The companies came around to the best access to get hydrants opened up.  Crews did a good job of knocking down the fire very quickly.”

The cause of the fire was not immediately known. A fire investigator was called to the scene.
