Phase two of construction is beginning at Erie’s City Mission.
Today, crews are starting the demolition of the old mission. The goal is to build a new chapel and courtyard in its place.
The Project Superintendent, Bob Horstman of Frontier General Contrating, says this phase will take around seven months. “We’ll complete the demolition and then we’ll clean everything up and recycle all the material and then we’ll be filling the basement with selected fill and building a new mission in there, a new chapel.”
The first phase of the project is already complete with a new dining hall and kitchen. Horstman says after working on the property for nearly a year, it’s clear the mission is an asset to the city.
