Abarta Coca-Cola Beverages is set for take over the western Pennsylvania distribution territory of the Coca-Cola Bottling Company. Abarta, based in Pittsburgh, takes over the distribution franchise that covers 90% of Pennsylvania today, July 29th, making Abarta the 10th largest Coca-Cola distributor in the US.
They have been working to transition 1250 Coca-Cola employees into their company including over 100 here in Erie. A primary distribution center will be in Erie, serving Erie, Crawford, Forest, McKean, Mercer, Potter and Warren counties.
Abarta is hosting a press conference Monday, in Erie, to formally announce the acquisition of the territory. They have also announced plans to invest about $10 million in facilities in Pennsylvania.
