Plans to refill and restock Tamarack Lake are being finalized.
An open forum was held at the West Mead Township Building to discuss refilling the lake which was emptied in mid-2012 after engineers discovered seepage areas near the lake’s northern end and voids in both dams. The dams are in the final stages of a 12-million-dollar construction project. April 15th is the estimated target date to start refilling Tamarack Lake with a restocking plan to follow and restore the ecosystem in the lake.
“Tamarack Lake has a lot of fertility and it’s a very fertile lake. So, we expect good growths rate in that and not too long for the fishery to be a nice population,” said Brian Ensign, fisheries biologist with State Fish and Boat Commission.
Once refilled, Tamarack Lake will be restocked with large mouth bass, blue gill, walleye and other species of fish.
