Erie police traffic investigators are hoping to get video from businesses along the Bayfront to help solve a hit and run accident that critically injured a young boy.
The incident occurred around 5:15pm Sunday evening, when a silver or white cross-over SUV struck an 8 year old boy on the Bayfront Connector, west of Broad Street. The car struck the boy, then drove away. Police say several kids were walking on the Bayfront Connector when witnesses claim the boy ran into traffic and was hit.
The boy was originally transported to UPMC Hamot, but has since been moved to critical condition in a Pittsburgh Hospital.
The Bayfront Connector was closed to traffic heading south at E 12th St and northbound near Broad Street as police investigated. It has since reopened. Traffic investigators say this area of the Bayfront continues to be a problem with foot traffic. Sgt. Jeff Annunziata, EPD Traffic Investigator; says people “…go through there just to get to Burger King, instead of going the safe way. Years ago, [Burger King] used to put a fence up… but now there is a permanent opening because it wasn’t doing any good to fix it”.
