Possible government shutdown Friday

Local News

Time is running out for Congress to find a way to keep the government up and running.

The Federal Government will run out of money Friday night.  That is, unless, Congress agrees to a last-minute spending package.  Minority Leader Chuck Schumer says Democrats don’t want a government shutdown, but he says his party won’t support plans to avoid a shutdown on Friday unless Republicans agree to extend DACA, spend billions to ensure lower-income Americans have access to Obamacare, and fund a national health insurance program for children.

Senator Chris Murphy (D) Connecticut, says, “it is just cruel to send these families into the holidays with anxiety while we all sit around safe and sound”.

White House Press Secretary, Sarah Sanders, says, “I would hope Democrats would live by the Chuck Schumer rule and not hold this bill hostage”.

Democrats aren’t the only ones with demands.  GOP leaders want to spend $81 billion on a new disaster relief package.
