There will be a major shake-up at the Erie County Courthouse beginning in the New Year.  But, the president judge assures the public their cases will not be delayed.

Erie County Judge John Garhart will be retiring at the end of the month.  Then, William Cunningham plans to retire in January.  Cunningham’s position will not appear on the 2019 ballot, but Garhart’s position will. Along with an opening for former Judge Robert Sambroak’s seat.

But, President Judge John Trucilla says the courts are prepared for the changes. “We’re calling upon our active judges, but we will be generously calling upon our senior judges.  So, to do that I’ve already contacted the administrative office of Pennslyvania Courts, AOPC, and we have laid the groundwork. They know we’ll be short-handed.”

In terms of those two seats that will be open in the 2019 election, Trucilla says he’s confident they’ll have a very talented and qualified pool of candidates.
