President looks to make legal practice called ‘flipping’ illegal

Local News

President Donald Trump wants a common legal practice to be outlawed.

Multiple reports indicate President Trump says a practice known as ‘flipping’ should be illegal.  The statement coming after his former lawyer, Michael Cohen, pleaded guilty to multiple charges.

Trump is insinuating that people facing charges shouldn’t be able to work with the government to receive a lesser sentence.

Legal expert Eric Purchase says banning flipping would make it extremely difficult to convict criminals. “In order to get information about a criminal enterprise, you have to get information from criminals and the only way to get information from criminals is to offer them something that makes it worth their while.”

Purchase also stresses that the president, alone, does not have the authority to make flipping illegal.  He would need the support of the legislature.
