President threatens government shutdown over border security issues

Local News

President Donald Trump is threatening another government shutdown, insisting he wants a government spending plan to include funding for his border wall.

That threat comes as a surprise to republican leaders, who just last week met with the president to discuss government funding.  The leaders thought they had an agreement to postpone a fight over the border wall until after the midterm elections.  But, now that’s changed and there’s still a split over how much funding to give the wall.

“If we don’t get border security? I would have no problem doing a shutdown. It’s time we had proper border security. We’re the laughing stock of the world.”

Government funding runs out September 30th.  The house has already left for the summer, giving themselves only 11 legislative days to pass legislation to avoid a shutdown just weeks before the midterms.
