People who have trouble getting around often avoid sand and water as it can sometimes be too difficult a challenge. But, some new equipment at Presque Isle State Park could change all of that.
Donations made to Presque Isle made it possible for them to invest in chairs made specifically to get people through sand or into the water. The national group, the Twilight Wish Foundation, asked local chapters to concentrate on their community’s best asset.
Beach 9 is the chair-accessible beach on the park, but with the new chairs, other parts can be enjoyed too. Three chairs for the beach and two more for the water. Now, the job is to make sure people know they’re here.
Lake Erie Lifeguard Manager Steve Dunsmore says, “They’re just not aware that they are available, so we’re just trying to get the word out to individuals who would need this service; that it is available here at Presque Isle”.
There are now five chairs available for sand and water travel. They can be signed out at the park’s public safety building and are first come, first serve.
