Presque Isle Downs gears up for its big race weekend and it’s jam-packed with activities

Local News

For horseracing fans, this is the weekend to look forward to, and Presque Isle Downs and Casino is the place to be if you can’t make it to the Kentucky Derby.

This is the 144th running of the Kentucky Derby and PIDowns and Casino makes it almost like you’re there.  Saturday will mark the first leg of the Triple Crown where horseracing fans have a chance to enjoy a day at Presque Isle Downs to watch and wager on the Kentucky Derby.

Also Saturday, PI Downs will host the 3rd Annual Kiss a Pig 5k, where someone will have a chance to run on the racetrack surface at Presque Isle Downs.  All proceeds from this event benefit the Boys & Girls Club of Erie.

Marketing Director Jennifer See says, “We took a lot of time to listen to our customers and a lot of feedback was, ‘your buffet is really expensive, we’re looking for something more affordable. We want to see some different menu options.’ We thought it would be fun to theme them, that’s the direction we took.”

Tonight begins Fiesta Friday, then comes Italiano Saturday and Pot-Luck Sunday.

Also back this year, you don’t have to leave your vehicle to place a wager on the Kentucky Derby.  The drive-thru wagering booth will be set up in the lower parking lot at Presque Isle Downs & Casino.

And, today is also the launch of the new $9.99 buffet menu.  New food options are coming and, of course, David Belmondo is first in line at the buffet…  From a new, great-priced buffet menu to betting on the horse races, it’s happening this weekend.
