Marital artists from all around the region put their skills to the test Saturday in the second annual Presque Isle Open Martial Arts Tournament.
Both men and women ages four to 40 competed in multiple categories including board breaking, open poomsae, weapon forms, synchronized poomsae and World Taekwondo Federation Olympic sparring.
Tournament director Keith Von Volkenburg says around 80 people participated this year.
He says the tournament is about more than just seeing who is the best.
“Our goal in our training is first off the student is make they’re trying to be good individuals, so that’s one of the things we’re teaching here is people-building skills. And the same thing, trying to bring the community together and have something positive in the Erie community.”
Von Volkenburg says he looks forward to growing the tournament every year.
