Presque Isle rangers to be equipped with Narcan

Local News

ERIE, Pa. — Presque Isle State Park rangers will soon be carrying Narcan in the event of an overdose on the park grounds.

Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Wolf allotted $10 million in his budget to make sure all first responders have access to Narcan and that includes state park rangers.

Bryan Hogan, supervisor of park rangers at Presque Isle, said that all rangers will be carrying a doze of nasal spray Narcan in the event of a reported overdose.

“It gives us an extra additional first-aid tool to what seems to be becoming a problem,” Hogan said. “It’s a matter of time before it filters into the park and this way we’ll be prepared if needed.”

According to officials, there have been seven drug-related deaths on the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources lands in the past two years.
