Protesters concerned for well-being of immigrant children

Local News

Some people say immigration policies are tearing families apart and they’re calling for an end to current detention practices.

Community members and several groups gathered outside of Erie Federal Courthouse, demanding that President Trump’s Administration present policies that will keep immigrant parents and children together.

Attorney General Jeff Sessions announced a ‘Zero Tolerance’ policy in April, saying that any immigrants who enter the US illegally will be prosecuted.  Demonstrators want to get rid of the stricter enforcement.

Protestor and Trauma Therapist Lydia Laythe was there today and she says, “Our government is systemically terrorizing these families and causing, potentially, long-term impact on these children’s lives–on an entire generation of children.”

Demonstrators are collecting petition signatures that they will send to lawmakers.
