Public Health Educator visits local market to educate consumers about healthy choices

Local News

The Public Health Educator from the Erie County Department of Health was at Sammy’s Corner Store today to help people make healthier decisions when they are out grocery shopping.

Customers coming in to Sammy’s were also able to get free screening courtesy of the Erie Department of Health.  This is their second week at Sammy’s but they’re already changing people’s attitudes toward their food choices.

The health educator, Alex Iorio, says, “These are our heart bucks… so it lists here what healthy foods you can get.  There’s fresh produce here in the store, eggs, 100 percent juice, canned tuna, canned poultry as long as it’s in water, frozen vegetables, and anything whole grain.”

Alex says the foods to really avoid are soda, Little Debbie’s snacks, and potato chips.
