Rep. Mike Kelly announces he voted against resolution calling on Vice President Pence to invoke 25th Amendment

Local News

The U.S. House of Representatives passed a resolution Tuesday evening calling on Vice President Mike Pence and the Cabinet to invoke the 25th Amendment to remove President Trump from office.

This, after the vice president announced he would not invoke the 25th Amendment, according to a letter to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi earlier Tuesday.

U.S. Representative Mike Kelly says he voted against the resolution. Rep. Kelly released the following statement on the matter:

“The 25th Amendment is a tool to transfer power if a president is physically unable to discharge their duties, which is not the current situation. I don’t believe the House of Representatives should be asking Vice President Mike Pence to unconstitutionally seize power from an elected president in the final week of his term. Thankfully, the vice president has already told Congress he will not do so for the sake of unity, healing, and fidelity to the Constitution.”
