People are getting a taste of Downtown Erie.

Residents and tourists joined Erie Food Tours for nearly three hours on Friday around lunchtime. They learned about the city’s history and tried different foods.

The group visited five downtown eateries along or near State Street, including Like My Thai, Stevo’s Pizza, Dave’s Diner, El Amigo Mexican Grill, and Ye Ole Sweet Shoppe.

“I liked the pepperoni balls at Stevo’s,” said Talon Lowitz, 13, of Destin, Fla. “I felt like those were amazing, because not only were they pepperoni balls local to here but they were fresh and that added some flavor.”

Owner and tour guide Kelly Karns said this is the fourth year for Erie Tour Foods. She said “the goal is to expose locals and tourists to places that they haven’t been, or places that they don’t regularly go to… maybe things that they’ve been interested in trying, but maybe haven’t yet.”

The tour has two other trails that take guests to North East and through Downtown Erie for happy hour.

The tours run through October. For more information, click here.
