ERIE, Pa. — Scott Whalen, president and CEO of Saint Vincent, announced Wednesday that he plans to step down from his position.

Whalen, who joined Saint Vincent in 2011, will continue to serve the hospital over the next few months to ensure a smooth transition in leadership, according to a press release.

No retirement date was given.

“Scott has been a tireless advocate for Saint Vincent, our patients and the Erie community during his tenure as president and we greatly appreciate everything he has done to help us fulfill our mission of providing outstanding care, comfort and compassion for all who turn to Saint Vincent in their time of health need,” said Cynthia Hundorfean, president and chief executive officer of Allegheny Health Network.

The announcement comes shortly after the hospital unveiled plans for a $115 million project that includes a new emergency department, new patient rooms and other changes.

The search for a new president for Saint Vincent is underway, the release said.
