Local high school students are spending the day exploring various aspects of government. The Second Annual ‘Youth Civic Engagement Symposium’ attracted nearly 150 students for the day-long field trip.
The students are learning about the various branches of the federal, state and local government. Local leaders are also offering these students advice. Facilitator for Erie Together, Mary Bula, tells us it gives them the chance to, “be in front of the mayor, and mayoral candidates, and police and fire chiefs, and city council people, and federal judges, and have the opportunity to ask them real questions about what they do every day.”
Gannon University, Senator Pat Toomey’s Office, and Erie Together teamed up to make the event possible.
