SNAP Coordinator says bishops should not receive advance copy of Grand Jury transcripts

Local News

The organization that represents victims of sexual abuse by priests is speaking out.  The group says that bishops should not be getting Grand Jury transcripts before the public.

The Grand Jury testimony on allegations made against priests in five Pennsylvania Dioceses, including Erie, will be made public at the end of June. But, bishops, including Erie’s Bishop Persico, have been given advance copies so the Diocese can prepare a response.

Judy Jones, the Midwest Coordinator for the Survivor Network for those Abused by Priests, or ‘SNAP,’ says in a statement, “It still hurts victims.  Their stories are in those transcripts.  They don’t see them, just the bishops; it looks like privilege”.

Jones, who is based in Saint Louis, plans to come to Erie to hold a media event here.
