It is that time of year again when the SONS of Lake Erie are preparing to hatch walleye to stock the bayfront.
For more than 30 years now, the SONS of Lake Erie have had a dedicated team to hatch walleye and brown trout. Today, the SONS members heading to Linesville Fish Hatchery to pick up more than 108 million eggs.
Once the fish hatch, they will be placed into a holding tank.
The SONS plan on hosting an Open House for the public to come and see the fish and the work the SONS of Lake Erie are doing inside the hatchery.
Bob Zawadzki of the SONS of Lake Erie says, “Hopefully, if they do survive, or when they do survive, they will be part of the growing school of walleye we had experienced the last couple of years. “
About 1-3% of the walleye will make it.
The Open Hosue will take place on May 4th and 5th fron 12-4pm on both days.
