The American Red Cross is joining forces with community groups to educate Erie Residents of the importance of home fire safety. Each day in communities through out our country roughly seven people die in home fires. The “Sound the Alarm Save a Life” event aims to educate about safety.
Pam Masi Executive Director of Red Cross Northwestern Pennsylvania went door to door with Mayor Joe Schember along with community volunteers. Smoke alarms in hand. Their goal is to help provide the information needed to hopefully prevent home fires and if a fire occurs the tools needed for people to safely escape.
Having a working smoke alarm can increase your chances of evacuating a burning home by over 50 percent.
