HARRISBURG, Pa. — The Pennsylvania State Police saw a 8.1 percent decrease in crashes during the Thanksgiving travel period, according to a release.
Police investigated 931 crashes from Nov. 23 to Nov. 27. That number is down from 1,013 crashes in 2015.
Of the 931 crashes, 61 were alcohol related with six people being killed and 271 were injured. Two of the six fatal crashes involved alcohol.
In 2015, there were a total of 11 fatal crashes. Seven involved alcohol.
State troopers made 610 DUI arrests, up from 558 the previous year. Troopers also issued 13,941 speeding tickets and 1,264 citations for people not wearing seat belts.
